FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
WHAT IS THE CLASSIFICATION AND INTENDED USE FOR VOGMASK?
Vogmask is designed as Filtering half masks to protect against particles.
Vogmask is Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Certified KF-94, GB2626-2006 Personal Protective Equipment Certified KN95, and Certified for CE Mark Personal Protective Equipment - filtering half masks for particles, against EN 149:2001 + A1:2009 . Vogmask conforms to NIOSH N99 filter efficiency as stated in 42 CFR Part 84.181.
Respirators are PPE and are designed and used to reduce the potential exposure of the wearer to airborne hazardous contaminants. There are two filtering layers sewn into the middle of the mask. The filter layers are not replaceable.
N99 efficent particle filtering nanofibre for particles
Carbon filter layer for odors
The following is a functional description of the Vogmask and its intended use:
Particle filtering half mask to reduce exposures to airborne particulate matter.
Helps to protect from airborne particles such as dust, pollen, shavings, contaminants, particles in wildfire smoke, and particles found in air pollution.
The mask can also help reduce exposures to airborne biological particles.
Intended for general public use
Certain limitations apply to the use of the Vogmask product:
Follow fitting instructions carefully; filtering efficiency depends on proper fitting.
Do not use Vogmask for environments of extreme chemicals, gases, vapors, oils, aerosols, or oil based particles such as in industrial settings as these will degrade the filtering nanofibre and may affect filtering efficiency.
Do not use Vogmask in oxygen deficient or explosive atmospheres.
Does not eliminate the risk of illness, diseases, or infection.
Leakage will occur if facial hair passes under the face seal.
This product does not guarantee protection from illness or any harmful substance.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ONE VALVE MASKS AND THE TWO VALVE MASKS?
Vogmasks are available in two Product Families: Microfiber N99CV and N99 Organics. The small disk on the side of the mask is a one-way exhalation valve.
N99CV VOGMASKS are printed microfiber outer layer, N99 particle filtering media, carbon filter, woven microfiber inner layer, and one exhalation valve for facilitating exit of moisture and CO2 from the interior of the mask.
N99 AND N99C2V ORGANIC VOGMASKS are solid color dyed outer layer organic cotton, N99 particle filtering media, organic cotton inner layer; N99C2V Organics include N99 particle filtering nanofibre, carbon filter and two exhalation valves for facilitating exit of moisture and CO2 from the interior of the mask.
Both product families have the same middle layer particle filter, efficient for protecting from microscopic particles of mean diameter .3 microns.
DOES VOGMASK HELP WITH SENSITIVITY TO ODORS?
There are two filtering layers sewn into the middle of the mask (not replaceable). One is N99 particle filtering nanofibre, the other is carbon filter for odors. Many people report that the carbon filter in combination with the particle filter provides protection from triggering senstivities.
DOES VOGMASK PROTECT FROM PARTICLES IN AUTOMOBILE EXHAUST AND OTHER AIRBORNE PARTICLES IN POOR AIR QUALITY?
Vogmask is appropriate for use in environments containing emissions from internal combustion engines.
The majority of the post-combustion particles in the environment, which are soot (unburned carbon and ash) and other liquid and solid particles. While some oil can technically be emitted as a particulate from internal combustion engines, it would exist in the nearby atmospheric air in very dilute amounts that will not degrade the Vogmask filter material.
Vogmask is widely used in urban environments to protect against particulates including emissions from motor vehicles.
CAN VOGMASK HELP FOR WILDFIRE SMOKE?
Intended Use of Vogmask in our Certified Product Families N99CV, N99 Organic, and N99C2V Organic include efficient filtering of particles as found in wildfire smoke (filter media is tested at 99% of particles as small as .3 microns).
The particle filtering capability of Vogmask protects from the majority of the post-combustion particles in the environment, which are soot (unburned carbon and ash) and other liquid and solid particles.
WHAT IS THE USEFUL LIFE OF VOGMASK?
The useful life depends on the environmental conditions the mask in which the mask is worn. The mask may be reused until the Use by Date marked on the packaging. The obsolescence date is three (3) years from the date of manufacture.
Vogmask is certified as a Reusable mask product. Once the middle layer particle filtering textile is clogged with microscopic particles, there is an increase in breathing resistance and a new mask is needed.
If any part or assembly of the mask is damaged, or if a good seal is not achievable, discard the mask. Disposable respirators marked “R” are designed to be re-used for a limited period.
WHAT IS THE HEAD STRAP ACCESSORY
A head strap accessory is available to improve security and fit. The CE certified Vogmask Head Strap is a useful accessory for securing the mask behind the head with a tensioner bead. This strap or head harness is available as a separate accessory item to be worn by the user with any of the Vogmask variants. The head harness attaches to the ear loops with snaps. The head harness tightens the strap behind the head with a tensioner bead. When a head harness is useful:
Playing sports in a mask
Riding a motorcycle, bike, or scooter
WHAT SIZE SHOULD I ORDER?
Weight based Size Recommendations:
SMALL 25-50 lbs / 11-22 kg
MEDIUM 51-130 lbs / 23-58 kg
LARGE 130-200+ lbs / 59-90 kg A very general guide is Large is for most adults. Mediums fit about 9yrs old, teens & petite adult females. Small fits youths up to about 8/9years, approx 22-23kg Please contact us if the mask you ordered is not the proper size.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE EAR LOOPS TUG ON MY EARS AND BEND MY EARS FORWARD?
Try stretching the ear loops to maximum length two or three times, and then try the mask on again for size and comfort. If this does not work, contact us for replacement size procedure.
FITTING TIP: When your Vogmask arrives, the ear loops are measured within variance according to Quality Plan. If the ear loops are too short, gently stretch the loops until you hear indication of loosening of spandex, then try the mask on for more comfortable adjusted length ear loop.
WHAT IF THE FACEBLANK DOES NOT EXTEND BENEATH MY CHIN?
Once you position the side up with the aluminum noseband formed over the bridge of your nose, a properly fitting mask should reach below your chin. If it does not comfortably reach below your chin, the mask is too small to get a good seal. Try first positioning the noseband lower on your nose bridge. If that does not work, please contact us for the next size larger.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE MASK FOGS MY GLASSES?
Follow fitting instructions carefully. Make sure the side up is the side with the noseband for forming over the bridge of the nose. Form the aluminum noseband carefully on the gaps between the nose bridge and the cheeks. Your exhale should exit the mask through the exhalation valve and not out the gaps between the cheeks and nose bridge.
WHERE IS THE FILTER AND CAN IT BE REPLACED?
The particle filtering textile and the carbon filter are sewn into the middle layers of the mask and are the same dimension as the outer faceblank. The filter is not replaceable. After the useful life of the mask, the entire mask has to be replaced.
WHAT IS THE DISK ON THE SIDE OF THE MASK?
The disk on the side of the mask is a one-way exhalation valve designed to add comfort to the wearer by the free exit of moisture and CO2 of the exhale. Valved respirators protect the wearer from airborne hazardous contaminants.
DOES THE EXHALATION VALVE FILTER THE EXHALATION OF THE WEARER?
No, the exhalation valve is made of three parts: a valve base, a silicone membrane (stopper), and a valve cover. The silicone stopper opens with the pressure of exhalation, and returns to closed position to prevent inward leakage. Valved respirators do not protect others from the wearer's exhalation. For mask use where protection from the wearer's exhale and from exhaled particles, choose a mask without an exhalation valve.
CAN THE VALVE BE TAKEN OFF FOR WASHING?
No, the valve is permanently heat sealed to the mask. It is fine to get it wet, This will clear it of microscopic dust and particles. If the valve on your mask falls apart, do not use the mask. Contact us for a replacement.
CAN I WASH MY VOGMASK?
Yes, the recommended washing instructions are:
Rinse outer and inner layer with water
Add a drop of liquid dishwashing soap
Rinse again and hang to fully dry before storage
Contaminants cannot multiply on textile without moisture
